The Origin of Nordic
Hi I’m Tim and I founded Nordic on Nine. Before Nordic was created it was a repurposed wine barrel full of ice in my driveway. After the first day of using the bucket of ice, we kind of became best friends. It was a weird relationship to my wife and family because I wouldn’t stop talking about the barrel in the back yard. We would only spend 5 mins together everyday, but all day I wanted to make sure my new best friend had what he needed…fresh water and of course, ice.
Ice is not easy to make when you need 20 lbs of it per day! I started out buying 8 bags at a time, but that became an expensive habit. So, I upgraded to an ice maker that basically needed to run 24/ 7 and stored all the ice in our freezer. The ice maker leaked all over the garage floor and my wife would give me dirty looks when there wasn’t enough room in the freezer for food. We finally created a system to keep my little buddy and me going for a while.
A year later I thought my barrel looked lonely. So, I decided I’d try and build a sauna in the back yard so they could hang out. Countless splinters and a hammered thumb or two later we did it. Made out of cedar and heated with a wood burning stove; our new friend was ready to go. We had friends come over and use it all the time and it truly was a lot of fun. “Lets Sauna and Plunge” became a common term for anyone willing to join. This sparked an idea that would eventually become Nordic on Nine.
Now Nordic is a place where you can come everyday. The water is always cold and clean and the saunas are always hot and dry. You can use it once or you can use it everyday. You can test yourself with the icy water or you can relax in the warm saunas.
My journey with ice and fire started in the driveway and is now able to be shared with all of you. My barrel and I still can’t believe it.
Enjoy,
-Tim
